Day 11 – Time to go home…..

Neither of us had a good nights sleep, we were both really warm in the hotel room although had turned the heating right down – think we may have become acclimatised to the artic weather.

We were down at breakfast by 09.00 hrs and out of the hotel around 10.15 hrs; we were hopeful the transition to the airport would go as well as the transition from the airport to the hotel had been a couple of days earlier. Terry had the task of dragging the suitcase through the slush again, honestly, I really don’t know how the people who have to endure that every day deal with it still, better slush than ice I suppose.

The park, right by our hotel, looked really pretty this morning having had another good layer of snow fallen on it last night. I did wonder how it might look in the Spring when all the snow and ice had melted; very pretty I expect with the river running through it.

After about 5 minutes of waiting at the Tram stop we caught the Tram to Oslo Central Station and found our way easily to the airport express train. We bought our tickets from a machine and were again able to jump straight on to a train that was only stopping once between our station and that of the airport; the journey took around 25 mins in total.

One at the airport we were able to check in and drop our baggage off. Our flight wasn’t until 13.20 hrs, so we had a couple of hours on our hands to wander round the shops and have a bite to eat. We sat in a coffee shop and Terry ordered a baguette for himself and two medium coffees; 220 k if you like, around £20. I did manage to get rid of my last 70 k though, which helped a little.

After boarding we spent some time on the ground before being able to fly as the plane needed to be de-iced; this involved waiting in a queue behind other planes, a bit like in a car wash. The temperature showing at the airport was – 18.

The flight was thankfully uneventful and over in about 2 hrs. It was good to see some green fields again after spending the last 10 days seeing every thing just covered in snow. The drive home was also very smooth; landing within standard working hours resulted in us pretty much not having to stop hardly at all. Absolutely clever me; of course I thought of that when I booked the flights.

Over and out for now. Thanks for reading.

Hard work dragging the suitcase through the slush!
Great name for a shop, the prices were indeed a joke.
In the station. I love the fact that the words are so long -why bother with spaces. 😂

The platform at the station for Oslo airport, slightly less slush.
